You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free

Freedom is the quest of every man’s soul. None of us like to be enslaved to anything. We seek freedom from the depth of our being, yet many times we are not aware that we our bond by something. Since we are children of Adam through birth we have a hidden quest for freedom in our hearts, this freedom is an unknown desire present in every soul. The unregenerate see this freedom in an independence from God in being self sufficient through a self centered existence. However the more they work for this independence it takes them to a greater amount of bondage to the principal of slavery that governs this fallen world.
If you try to tell anyone that they are slaves by nature and not free men they will ridicule you and will deny their state of slavery through ignorance. But the reality of the fact is that they are and would remain in such a state of blindness until they are faced with the reality of God’s truth.
Freedom
Freedom
Freedom to an unsaved person is a license to depend on their lower nature even more, but to a born again blood washed saint it has a very different meaning. Looking back at my years of utter dependence from God’s illuminating word of truth, I never understood the depth of my slavery. To me it was all fine, although I was in the state of many sufferings, yet they never seemed to me as the fruits of my slavery. I was suffering from many episodes of spiritual casualties, yet refused to see them for what they were. I did like the darkness within myself and saw life through its tinted glasses of hopelessness. Although outwardly I was professing to be free, inwardly I was enslaved by many passions and the lusts of my flesh. My prayers often were to be blessed in what now I know was an abominations before God.
Being bound by the prince of this world I was seeking a false freedom.
By seeking to be free mankind has their back on the reality of the true freedom. We all have gone astray the Bible says and no one is seeking God. In our minds we have a concept of the freedom, but the author of it is not God, but our carnal appetites of the flesh or our old carnal nature. Professing to be wise we all have become foolish Paul says in Romans chapter one. The most amazing mystery is that the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil had made this stronghold even worst by presenting a fabricated freedom instead of the truth of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We always pray for a change to happen so that we will be free of such and such, not knowing we are never free until we meet the source of the true freedom Who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He is the only way, the only truth and Life, and this truth is what can make mankind truly free, yet we despise it all the more.
Proclaiming to be seekers of the truth we each create our own truth. Just like when Pontius Pilate was challenged by facing the eternal truth incarnate, he kept on asking what is this truth? The Roman governor in Judea was face to face with this eternal Truth, yet his carnal mind was forbidding him from recognizing this eternal source of True Freedom.
Pilate kept on asking about this truth, but it seemed an unknown and mystical challenge for him. The same is to today. We often approach the world with truth of the gospel, which can direct them to Christ the only truth that can make man free from his bondage to his fallen nature, but man is unwilling to come to its light.
In John chapter 8 Jesus our Lord and the Messiah of Israel in speaking to the Jews who claimed to be seekers of the truth is saying “ If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed, and you shall know
The truth and the truth shall make you free.” ( John 8:31-31 ). But they by denying Him as the truth were saying…. We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone, how can you say “You will be made free”? Jesus Answered them. “ Most assuredly, I say to you whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” Here is where the veil is remaining on the hearts of men. When one although a sinner by nature is refusing to admit living or abiding under the power of sin. John in his epistles argues this deep truth in this way. John says if we say we have no sin we make God a liar. Can it getter any simpler than this?, But if we confess our sins we have an advocate with the Father the Son Jesus who upon our confession can cleanse us from all sin and can pardon us for all iniquities to restore our relationship with God.
Confessing to be under no one ‘s bondage was an arrogant and prideful proclamation of being freed from the power of sin, which was in another way saying that Satan had no power over their lives, when in all actuality they were bond by him through the Adamic birth. This was a direct denial of the need for our Savior. Jesus Christ the Jewish Messiah was a direct answer to cry of man’s heart for true freedom, but the perishing would prefer the darkness over the light which was presented to them in the personhood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. That is why Paul the apostle following Isaiah prophet’s proclamations in Isaiah 10:20-23 declares in Romans 9 verses 27 through 29 the truth about the remnant who would receive the gospel of the Messiah in a spiritual sense and not in a physical. Although this spiritual truth revealed through Christ could manifest
Itself in the natural, but the entire truth of this reality was to set man free from his spiritual slavery to the power of sin.
Paul in repeating prophet Isaiah’s words is saying the following it his audience in Rome.
“ Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, The remnant will be saved. For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth. As Isaiah also declared… Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed we would have become like Sodom, and we would have been made like Gomorrah”.
What prophet Isaiah or Paul the apostle are saying is this… “The power of sin would reign on man until its full punishment was poured out on them, however the saving power of the Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord came to leave a remnant both from the Jews and gentiles who would receive this eternal truth through confession of sin in full repentance.
This is why Jesus said what He said to the Jews. He did not always give a quick supernatural way out to men. Here in John chapter 8 verses 31-32 He teaching about first becoming a disciple or a student of the word, then secondly by a constant remaining position in the word we would know The Truth experientialy and the power of His Grace, which transforms us in His likeness. Not our human efforts or a mere profession of knowing Abraham the father of our faith or even the Lord God himself without committing ourselves to Him and the obedience of His truth. This is the reality that to too many of us even enlightened ones the truth of the word of God is painful at times. This is why Jesus said “IF” you abide in My word you are My disciples indeed, And you shall know (“why shall in this translation and not will”) the truth, and the truth shall (“ Why again He is saying shall)” make you free.? I truly believe since a carnal Christian still enjoys some of his slaveries and does not want to hear the truth.
I believe the truth about the word of God to be the ultimate truth that sets man free from his spiritual bondages to sin and its controlling power. But the only time the Son of God can make us free is when we are truly tired of its negative consequences in our lives. Free indeed means never living under the demands Of the law of sin an death in a permanent or constant way.
When even Christians today who are caught in an act of sin are trying to cover their behavior under worldly terminologies or psychological explanations, how could the truth of Christ set them free and that indeed?
In the book of Colossians apostle Paul writes to the Church that they are free in Christ and not bound under anything, however they should not use their freedom as a license for sinning habitually all over again. Since being in Christ and living under the law of Spirit of life in Christ has positionally set us free in the eyes of heaven, but this side of heaven we still have our free will to show God’s true justice in choosing righteousness over lawlessness.
