Rock of our refuge

The Bible says that say we believe in God, but according to James the half brother of our Lord even the demons believe that there is a God and are even terrified of Him, however they do not trust or obey Him.
There is a sea of difference between believing and trusting. The Bible is full of stories of men and women, who said they did believe in God, but yet when it came to trust Him in His ways, and in His word they trusted themselves more than the God they claim to believe. We all have this earthly state of unbeleif in us that the Lord wants us to walk away from. In proverbs 3 verses 5 and 6 the word says” Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths”.
Trusting God in times of darkness is a complete test of faith and the evidence of a pure walk with Him. The words of proverbs 3:5-6 are a very real indication of a safety zone provided for the believers on this side of heaven by the Lord for an abundant life of victory. The Holy Spirit here is teaching us that reliance on our own human thoughts and our own fallen ways would bring us into disappointments and failures in our own lives.
Our safety zone must be the life lived under the power of obedience to God’s revealed word. Those who want to succeed in this life after being saved must live according to the word.
“The Word is our safety Zone” without it you and I are to face many kinds of challenges, trauma’s and sometimes even deadly circumstances, including physical and spiritual death.
Many in Christ say we do trust Him, but chose to do their own thing, when it comes to obeying His written word. We like to trust ourselves or our own ways more than His. To us our own understanding of the flesh always makes more sense than to trust the invisible God and His word of truth.
That is why many in the body of our Messiah and Lord are sick, weak and some have slept. The word trust is a big word in itself and needs a great measure of obedience.
We say we believe in God and yet we do not trust His revealed truth about Himself being the word. When the word says we need to forgive we say no I cannot anymore. Enough is enough. Not knowing with it we only bind ourselves in the prison of our own lack of prosperity and in the state of blessedness.
We say I think in this fashion and that, but God’s word says do not lean on your own understanding and on the contraryin all things acknowledge Him.
Genesis chapter 19 has the story of God’s loving kindness extended to a man that later on the Bible in the New Testament calls him a righteouss man that always has amazed me.
Through the prayers and petitions of our father of faith Abraham the Lord God sends His two angels to rescue his nephew from the coming wrath. This record of the scriptures describes God’s plea of salvation from the coming judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah and that how even in the midst of mercy a godly man cannot still completely trust the place and the method of His salvation.
When the angels plea with him and his wife to come out of the city and flee to the mountains, Lot doubting the prescribed place of God’s own safety offers God His own solution.
Lot asks a small city of his own choosing over God’s offer of the mountains. Even though his request was granted by God’s angels, yet his lack of complete trust and the words of his own mouth eventually brought him his worst
Nightmare to pass. Eventually after they lost their mother and wife Lot and his two daughters went to the mountains, because the word says he was afraid of staying in Zoar, which initially was his own choice of refuge and there it was where her daughters made him drunk and slept with him. The children begotten by them are the Moabites who were an offspring of incest. Although in time the Lord Who turns all things for good brought Ruth the Moabites from there in Christ’s gemology for His purposes of redemption, yet the disobedience of Lot in God’s initial plea of safety show’s us the price of not fully trusting God in His written or spoken word.
In this very same way the 21st century believers like us too can say that we believe in God, yet trust our own resources as our place of safety than God. The Lord calls the love of money the root of all evil, and the word says many going after that love have pierced themselves with many sorrows.
Many of us like the Jews of Jesus’s day claim to be sons of Abraham, but are not willing to trust Him like Abraham our forefather did. We are not like him who said to Isaac when asked him where the sacrificial lamb is. And Abraham said “The Lord will provide for Himself the lamb”. That is why we walk around with false expectation and fabricated self inflicted wounds calling them God’s punishment on us. Refusing to face the truth we are blaming God where God has nothing to do with our own carnal choices in life. This is why Apostle Paul in Romans 8: 1 says “Now therefore there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus and are not walking according to the flesh”. Can a true born again Christian walk according to the flesh or the old nature? “Absolutely Yes”
Can a true Christian after having received Christ die spiritually and physically?
“Absolutely Yes”
Please read Romans 8:12 &13
Can a man after receiving the knowledge of the truth refuse its path and chose his own? Absolutely yes, because the Lord has given us men the freedom of choice. Did not the Lord Jesus in Luke chapter 17 speak about the foolish choice of Lot’s wife? In regards to the dark days of the end when our Lord Jesus warned us in Luke chapter 17 saying “ Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted , they built; but on the day Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. In that day who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away, And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife.Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it” (Luke 17:28-33)
Here now is the Lord’s warning to us about mistrusting Him in His word.
The word of the Lord says in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I have towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and a hope”. This is the heart of God for all His children at all times in all His dealings with men, but it is us who do not see Him eye to eye on His promises. Just like the righteous Lot we too have our own suggestions to His plea of love and mercy and hope. We have our own places of refuge and then we ask God to bless them for us. If God had meant to destroy something knowing it is not good for us we should not suggests that He should keep it as a safety zone for us. Then come and still nag at Him saying this place too I am afraid of. God‘s written and spoken word revealed through His precious Holy Spirit is the safest place of our refuge, and that without compromise.
No more Saying “I think this or I think that”, stop
None of our thoughts believers, none at all hate this psychological junk that is being fed to the Children of God in these last days that says “ Trust yourself, you know more than you think you know.” Don’t listen to these kinds of filth offered to you in lieu of His word. Trust in God and His word alone. If it was not for this daily walk of trust we would have not need the guidance of the precious Holy Spirit. Then Jesus did not have to leave us His word and His Spirit to guide our path on daily basis. He would have given us the master plan and would have us built it ourselves. But Jesus said on the revelation given to Peter that came from His father from heaven that He would build His Church not you and me. If it was not for complete reliance of the Spirit and His word he would not have send the comforter down to us to live in us. Then let us renew our minds daily on His word bringing our bodies as living sacrifices.
Let us let down our nets only on His word, since all our night long toil will end in amount to nothing. As Peter first hesitate to let down his fishing net, but later on obeyed the command of His voice, so do we need to do in these final days.
Let us forsake our own understandings and our own past human experiences and let us prepare ourselves in hearing the command of His voice through His Spirit in His written word in obedience.
Let us not just say I believe in God, since even the demons in Hell do this much, but to trust Him in obeying the truth of His word.
At the command of His word let us lower the net of our lives and expect to have a good catch. Amen?
May the Lord help us, so that we would not fall from the steadfastness of His word, even today as we are gathered around His eternal truth, called His words of Life.
God bless
