Moving out of Haran the place of our grief onto The promise land

12

Terah Avraham’s father’s death in Haran brought him into his renewed place of hearing God’s former call to Him for his move away from all that kept him from his land of blessing with God.

Initially it was in the Ur of the Chaldeans where God spoke to Terah Abram’s father to move from there to the land of Canaan, but when Terah’s son Haran died in the Ur of Chaldeans which is today present Iraq Terah carried his grief to a destination away towards the north. Surprisingly called Haran where they all settled until Terah who could not get over the death of his son himself died there in age 205. This place was in the current country of Syria. However the Lord, Who is sovereign in all His plans for His own, spoke to Abram once again to remind him of his former words to him to leave His country and his family and his father’s house to the place of His choosing. Therefore we see a very interesting spiritual principal in this part of the scripture that has a very important significance for us in understanding the reasons why sometimes we are spiritually stock where we are in life. Haran begets the spiritual significance of stagnation due to loss and grief of many kind. Abram was caught in this horrible place of spiritual dryness due to His involvement with his earthly family’s grief for their lost son and brother. This is why the Lord from Ur of Chaldeans had told him “Abram get out of your country and your family and your father’s house. To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing”.

Here is the major problem of many of us in life that keeps us from the land of our blessing. Many of us are stuck in the affairs of, or grieving situation of the past and we too like Terah are dying in our own Haran’s.

Many of us are prisoners of our own emotions and are trying to collect a debt from men who can never pay us back. Many of us after being enlightened by the Spirit of God are still leaving on the crumbs falling from the children’s table and are not willing to let go of our past and present hurts. That is why we are stuck in Haran and our promises have lingered with us since we are not willing to let go. In our minds we see others the reason for our failures in life, and mourning in our spiritual land of Haran we are the prisoners of our own emotions. Constantly blaming others for their past mistakes we keep our selves enslaved to these emotional hurts to the end. However the Lord Jesus commanded us to leave the judgment to Him, so that we could walk away from the Haran of our stagnation. This is why the Lord told Abram to initially leave all his familiar territory, because He knew these were the very reasons he could lose all His blessings with God.

Oh yes Satan also knows those areas of familiarity can put a great burden on our emotional state, that is why he loves to keep us from our land of prosperity in Christ. It is always among our own people and in our own house where the prophet is not honored or accepted. It is our closest people who influence our lives the most and they can be the very people who would keep us from God’s best for us too. The past hurts or losses can become a place of emotional hang-ups which we could carry them to the life of faith and these eventually will derail us from the promise land to a far distance of a life time grief and eventually a chronic life style of depression.

Many of us in our hearts have come to Haran and are not seeing our call to move unto to our place of abundance in Christ.

Many of us born again blood washed Christians are unfruitful in our walk of faith, because we constantly live in the past.

Many like Terah hear the call God for themselves, but die in the land of their grief never seeing the land of the promise. Some of us live constantly with the opinion of others about ourselves and soon form their opinion of us as our own, this way we never see or accept God’s opinion about us in Christ. Always rejecting God’s best for us we live in the death sentence of others rejection of ourselves. That is why the Lord said to Abram get out of Ur of Chaldeans and your own people, because I will take you to a land where I can make a nation of you and bless you and furthermore make you a blessing.  This word makes you a blessing has stuck with me since yesterday. Satan does not want us to leave the Haran so that we would not become a blessing to others. Satan sees the danger of us becoming a blessing that is why he is doing all he can to keep us in our Haran as long as he possibly can.

Hoping that we too like Terah would one day die there and never get out to be blessed and become a blessing to others. He does not want the children of God to experience their land of promise so that they could never be anything to anyone. Satan wants us to remain in the state of vengeance trying to collect a debt that no one can ever pay but God. Oh yes the enemy never wants us to know our God as our recompense.

Our recompense? What does this mean? What is the meaning of recompense? To recompense means to compensate; to make return of an equivalent for anything given, done or suffered; as, to recompense a person for services, for fidelity or for sacrifices of time, for loss or damages.

Jesus is the one who pay us back for all that was done to us and even more. He is the one to restore to us what was stolen from us spiritually and physically. He alone can give us the years the locusts have eaten.

As the Lord speaks in Joel chapter 2 verses 25 and on where He says “If you turn to Me then I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust and the chewing locust.” or in Isaiah 40:10 that the prophet of God says “Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come as a mighty one, and His Arm will rule for Him: Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.”

Yes in our state of grief or losses of many kinds we cannot see thing being restored to us and this state of unbelief or sometimes lack of patience in abiding in Christ Jesus forfeits our own new gained right to see Him act as our recompense. Remember patriarch Joseph and all the he suffered in the hands of his own brothers? But in the land of his affliction God made him prosper and there he made him forget his toil. This became the instigator of him naming his two sons whom Jacob in the end adopted as his own.

Knowing God as our recompense means to know Him as the one who make amends to someone for loss or harm suffered, or compensation or reward given for loss or harm suffered. This is very much like workers compensation received because of injuries suffered at the job. Many of us even in being a Christian ministers suffer hurts while serving the Lord, then want to collect for loss and damages ourselves, not knowing that these poor debtors  have no way of paying us back the damages they have done to us intentionally and not intentionally. Yes it God alone who will use all these hurts to reward us by many blessings if we allow Him by moving on from Haran to the land of our blessing called an abundant life in Him. Only if we would trust Him by finally move on to the and He will show us. The land of many fruitful blessings in Him.

After all it is so true “Whoever the Son sets free is free indeed”. In constant abiding in Christ and the fullness of His glory we have a true freedom and a land of the free. Many suffer in the hand of a cruel task master called Satan, who are waiting at their prison cells to have you and I go to them in the freedom that we have received to open up their prison doors. The only thing is before we could offer them the key to His eternal freedom, we ourselves need to be willing to move out of our own Haran’s and stop our lingering state of stagnation.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all our promises and He is the land of our promise.

I pray that with today’s message many of us would finally realize why is it that we are where we are and would make a decision to move out of whatever state of bondage or grief we are and move towards the total freedom that the Lord has for us. May His Spirit perform it in us today.
