I AM THE TRUTH

Today let us look into another one of our Lord’s proclamation of His deity. A very sensitive declaration about Himself which would rise up contentions among the unregenerate men, especially the Jews of His day.

A threefold pronouncement of His sixth I AM’s that brings us another dimension of His eternal Godhead.

We being the Church are getting so used to these words that in our hearing they seldom lose their intended purpose. As we spoke last week these were revolutionary speech back then, even today in some countries around the world, but to the Church unfortunately they have lost their relevance. Jesus spoke of Himself being “THE”  “TRUTH”. Just like today many are searching for truth in all their affairs and some have established their own version of the truth, but Jesus proclaimed that He is “THE TRUTH”.This made all else fail. In the world where Satan the father of lies is the ruler a light of “TRUTH” would mean a whole new concept of life. Men by their transgression in Adam were partakers of the nature of darkness and sin, but a light has shined upon them and that was to bring them out of their bondage of sin and darkness. In Matthew chapter 4 verses 13through 16 the scripture says “And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,  And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.” These great words of the scripture fulfilled in Christ Jesus our Lord began to break the darkness hovering over them all. Men are bound by many forces in this fallen world, but one of the greatest strongholds that keeps men chained dawn to sin and lawlessness is the lying spirit of deception that comes from the father of lies. Men in general do not like to be exposed to the truth. The scriptures say the unbelievers do not want to come to Jesus, because they know He would have their darkness exposed by His light. The second pronouncement of His threefold declaration of Himself was and is a direct attack to the kingdom of darkness. Satan hates “THE TRUTH” He offers lies to His own and he does all he can to keep them in the darkness of his lies till they perish.

Although men are desperate for the truth, but no one would dare to believe in the existance of the absolute truth. The self deceived in this world deny that there ever was a truth. But the Jesus Christ still cries out “I AM THE TRUTH” in their midst.

The world secretly is seeking to expose the lies in Today many are in search for the truth, when darkness has been even much stronger around them. Isaiah 60 says “Arise and shine for your “Light” has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you. The gentiles shall come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising.” In these words of the prophet there is a twofold fulfillment. One to the Jews of Jesus’s day and another one to us the people of the way or the Church. We are to live under the light of Him Who said “I AM THE TRUTH”. Meaning to live in truth and by His light and in this to expose the darkness around us. The self deceived cannot bare the radiance of those who carry this truth in their midst. This is why the world hates them. However the called of the Lord will be drawn to them by their testimony of the truth that is in them. When Jesus stood to testify about Himself to the Roman governor Pilate He said “I am here to testify about the truth” and Pilate was in awe asking Him what it meant. He was the testimony of the truth? He repeatedly asked Jesus what he meant by it? Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”
Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witnessto the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
³⁸ Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all. (John 18:37-38)

Here again we see that Jesus Calls Himself the witness of “THE TRUTH” and later on in John 14 we read Him saying He Himself is “THE TRUTH” . His own confession of His deity, which angers men even till this day. Those who love darkness cannot accept the truth which is in Him. The Bible even calls the Holy Spirit the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot accept. But why can’t they accept Him, because they love the darkness more than light the word says.

Have I said enough to say now that if all of these are true, then what kind of people are we to be? The Bible says people who should speak the truth to one another and to God. According to one humble servant of the Lord, there is a study done in which they found out that people lie at least 200 times in one day. You might say how could this be? I can tell you yes. When we do not speak the truth we obviously lie. And if the world around us is seeking to hear the truth from us, then how could they find it, if we the Church are not willing to speak it to each other in the first place? Many times we are afraid to lose friends by telling them the truth and we like to keep them fix in their sin and we avoid to bring the truth to them all to our shame.

More Complicated than it already is. Remember King David “The man after God’s own heart” in his humanity he thought somehow that he could hide his own sin by killing Uriah the Hittite, but he finally after two long years had to confess it to prophet Nathan upon him being confronted by him. Then in psalm 51 verse 6 David says to the Lord “Behold, You desire *Truth in the inward parts and in hidden part You make me to know wisdom”.

Here it is when we are not honest with God it is a blow to His deity Who says He has known us from our mother’s matrices. Today we might be confronted by His truth, but that is good.

Do you know why? Because the word says “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall Know the Truth and the truth shall make you free”.

                                        (John 8:31-32)

Yes because speaking the truth has a healing And freeing virtue in it and by this many are set free. That is why the scriptures say “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”. Jesus Christ is the word of God and the Word is “THE TRUTH” and by experientially knowing it we are set free of many kinds of traps and bondages. Satan loves to keep you and me in darkness of our own deceptions, so that by them he would keep us in our bondages and chains. Every time a lie is exposed by His TRUTH we step a step higher in our freedom in Him.

Many do not remain in His word long enough to be set free and that indeed. Some follow their own deceptions and later on find themselves bond even in a deeper bondages than before unfortunately. This is why the word of God says “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body” (Eph. 4:25) John chapter 8 verse 32 says again the “TRUTH” shall set us free. You see Jesus being “The TRUTH” will never lie to you. He is “THE FRIEND” that sticks closer than a brother. What do you think? If you ask Him a question about yourself do you think He would lie to you to keep you happy? Obviously not He is the only one who would not compromise the truth, then why should you and I? Paul the Apostle says in Ephesians let us speak the truth one to another, but elsewhere He says in love. Every truth spoken in love has the power to set us free. When we are trying to hide our hurts and deep wounded emotions they have certainly their negative effects on our soul and body. This is why many in the body of Christ Paul says are sick or even have fallen asleep. Paul on one occasion said to the Corinthian Church members, that His truth spoken to them did cause pain, but later on it leads them unto repentance.

The world unconsciously is seeking for the truth let us offer them what can set them free. Set them free from what? From sin, from lawlessness, from drugs and alcohol, from self hatred, from selfishness, from depression, from thoughts of suicide. Yes from deceptions of all kind, from lack of balanced self love, from an orphan spirit. From abuses of all kind and from self hatred and from lack of true peace. From manipulation. From living a lie forged as the truth. From Hell and its eternal fires of condemnation, from being alienated from the “THE LIFE of God”. Yes from being set free from diseases that associated are with lies and deceptions that are deep rooted in the lives of their captives. Freedom from unforgiving spirits and their torments. From being chained in the bondages of hatred and discord and deep rooted anger in resentment.
