King David’s priestly preparation
As we learn through the Old Testament scripture King David was the only king who held three offices at once. He held all the three offices of a King, office of a Prophet and greatest of all the office of a genuine priest. That is why our Lord and Savior Jesus The Christ is also called Son of David.
According to the Old Testament priestly ordinances the priest should have come from the family of the Kohamin or the Levitical line. Though this seems to come through bloodline by inheritance, and through election, but it required much preparation and years of radical obedience, and after the era of the giving of the law in Sinai through knowledge and practice of the Mosaic Law and commandments.
All this brings us to the book of 1 Chronicles 15:1-16; 15:26-29
King David in his training season through his wilderness journey of his priestly preparation learned from his previous mistake through a very hard lesson that “ No one may carry the ark of God but the levities, for the Lord has chosen THEM to carry the ark of God to MINISTER before Him forever.” 1 Chr.15: 2 and He also understood how to exchange his kingly apparel for the robe of priestly fine linen. Which is humility and obedience before Hs maker.
The original Hebrew word for the minister is ( Shah-raht) from Strong’s Dictionary#8334 means to wait on, to serve, to attend to. The Biblical word to minister or Sharat means yieldness, serventhood through obedience. This concept was fully demonstrated by High priest of our calling Christ Jesus, who being God emptied Himself in taking the form of man and by learning obedience even by going outside of the camp by His own body full field the office of an everlasting priesthood.
Our New Testament Parallel: 1 Peter 2:1-10
Peter in his first letter calls us a chosen generation and a royal priesthood, holy nation His OWN special people, yet in 1 Peter 2:1-3 he gives us clear instruction like the one king David gave his people in 1 Chr. 15:12 to sanctify ourselves tin co operating with The Holy Spirit’s work of sanctification to stand Holy in His sight and to enter into His rest promised to us before the foundations of this earth.
