Glory of the unfathomable God

12

The book of the 1st Kings is a very awesome demonstration of a an unfathomable God in His eternal plans of salvation, redemption and provision and sustenance.

When the entire nation of Israel was in idolatry and Baal worship, Elijah was the prophet who was sent by God to bring and end to the idolatrous worship of these foreign god.

In chapter 17th of the 1 Kings the third verse the Lord says the following to Elijah……

“Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into Jordan.” verse 4 says “ And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there”.

By this began the greatest story ever told in God’s unfathomable glory towards those who remain faithful to Him.

One of the greatest points of this story is God’s sovereignty over the lives of those who are committed to live for Him, but even beyond this truth stands the truth of His unfathomable means of provision in the times of famine and lack. I am amazed of God’s glorious ways of proving His majesty even in the most mysterious ways. Baal the God of the carnal nature or fertility was a counter part of Ashtoreth. These were god’s worshiped by Israel then and now. Elijah was God’s messenger to awaken Israel from their depth of idolatry, however his life serves as a lesson of God’s mercy and grace on behalf of all who have been predestined by Him in acknowledgement of His glory.

The famine reigning in Israel then was a sign from God to Ahab the King of Israel and all the idolatrous nation of the northern kingdom, that the God of nature is not the sustainer of this world, and that His true children are sustained by Him in all circumstances.

The unusual methods of God’s provision for His prophet stands as great examples of His sovereignty and faithfulness in providing provision for His own even in the worst of situations.

The drying up of the brook made the prophet of God seek God’s direction for sustenance elsewhere and in His surprise an unclean animal was chosen by God to feed him.

This shift of source of sustenance proved to the man of God and those in Israel that Baal was not God, But it was Yahweh who had the ultimate control of all things.
While the King and the idolatrous nation of Israel was suffering from the famine, God showed that His own who did not bow their knees to the carnal appetites of their flesh are remaining provided for by their heavenly Father, Who cared for them.
This famine served as punishment to others, but the prove of God’s faithfulness on behalf the uncompromisingly rightoeus.
The ravens were unclean animals to Israel by the Mosaic law, but to God they could serve as means of getting meat to His faithful people, and as an exception to the rule.
The delicacies of meat and bread were given to the uncompromising righteous for their unceasing faithful obedience to their God.
This once again proved that God could prepare a table before His true children’s enemies and that in a wilderness He can spread a table for those who trust in Him.
Living in the days that the Lord is beginning to Judge this world the famine of this bad economy is serving as a punishment for the sins of this world, but in seeing this example we can rest assure of His provision to His own overcoming remnant.
The source used hear is also speaking to us about an unfathomable God that He is. It speaks to us in regards to His greatness and unfathomable glory to use all means.
This is His greatness over other gods.
But the story does not finish here. Soon the Lord was going to come to His peophet yet by a new an unheard source of sustenance. In verse 9 of 1 Kings chapter 17th the word of the Lord comes to His prophet saying…
“ Arise go to Sidon and dwell there, See I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” The prophet arose and went to Zaraphath and when he came to the gate of the city , indeed a widow was there gathering sticks, And he called to her and said .
“Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “ Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand, so she said “ As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar, and see I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die”.
And Elijah said to her , “ Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward, make some for yourself and your son.
For thus says the Lord God of Israel;
“ The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.”
So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
Here is another demonstration of God’s unfathomable glory in feeding His own remnant through the most incredible sources. A suicidal and depressed widow is being used to be the life source of this great prophet. What an incredible story of mercy and grace demonstrated here.
Although this famine is to punish all the ungodly and sinners, yet the Lord has chosen this specific widow in Sidon to be glorified through her obedience.
Isn’t it incredible how the Lord is being magnified in the lives of His elect? A depressed and suicidal woman has been nominated and called to feed God’s uncompromising remnant. His ultimate plan was to even save and deliver and sustain this heathen mother and her child. In the midst of all God’s great plans of redemption of a nation, the Lord remembers ordinary people like you and I.
This woman overcame her fear and responded through faith and God was faithful to His promise spoken by His prophet. Later on we reed the widow’s son died and the prophet of God was there to bring him to life. This too was a sign of God’s foreknowledged intervention on behalf of His chosen elect.
To our God no one remains a far off. While He is dealing with nations near, yet in this too he remembers individuals a far off. This is the magnificence of our God.
His resources and the sources of His mercy and goodness remain unfathomable beyond human understanding. Israel is being chastised for its adulterous behavior towards her own eternal husband, yet in the midst of it He is mindful of the simple and suffering.
While the Baal worship is a treachery of His people, yet the God of all compassion is close to the broken hearted. Looking on the surface man could say God is in the big things, yet the cry of the needy is still heard by Him.
In the lack of the needy the mighty prophet is being fed and in the sacrifice of a widow’s faith she and her son are guaranteed life and sustenance. While one dies another receives grace to live.
Knowing the end of all things the Lord even guarantees the widow’s future praise. This is why we need to worship a God like Him. Those who glory they should glory in their God, who knows the beginning to the end and has taken away the boundaries of His mercy & grace upon the times and events.
That is why while the prophet of God is being sustained and trained many are fed and care ford by His grace. In this we see and trust that His mercies are new every morning. This is why the scriptures in proverbs 3:5 & 6 tells us “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”
Here is where we meet the unfathomable plans of God far and near. In all of this His sovereign will is still planning the way of the truly righteous of the lord to destroy the works of the wickedness in man.
After all of this yet remains the great battle won by His mighty prophet at Mount Carmel.
The elimination and destruction of all prophets of Baal and their worshippers. This is also what I believe God is going to do very soon to all the false altars erected by men who worship these gods. This in the hands of the prophetic church being raised up in this final hour.
Unless the prophetic Church raises to this level of trust in her Lord they will not be able to stand the final battleground.
Baal worship is not a bygone phenomenon. It is widespread in these last days. Baal worship is giving free-reign to the carnal nature. It expresses itself in gluttony, drunkenness and sinful sexual acts. God is about to send His true prophetic church to stand for the Lord and unless you have stood with Him in faith and holiness you would not be able to win this final warfare.
